Editorial Project
Ecuador
These illustrations were conceived as part of an editorial project that, although never published, was born from a deep need for expression in the face of the political and social landscape Ecuador was experiencing at the time.
The story, with its symbolic and poetic tone, functioned as a visual metaphor for a fractured society, marked by uncertainty, inequality, and institutional erosion. Through purposeful images, it sought to offer a critical yet sensitive look at a complex reality.
The visual concept was based on the contrast between the dreamlike and the everyday: disproportionate characters, distorted landscapes, and dense atmospheres were key resources to depict a sense of constant imbalance. The graphic narrative explores themes such as power, collective silence, and resistance, without resorting to obvious literalism, but rather appealing to the emotional and symbolic.
The color palette was chosen with special care: muted ochre, gray, and desaturated blue tones predominate, evoking an atmosphere of contained tension, while accents of red and yellow act as visual triggers of conflict and alertness.
Although the book was never published, these illustrations remain as a testament to an intensely lived era and to the power of art as a vehicle for memory, critique,
and transformation.
